The Maverick Players are reviving one of our greatest hits, GLADYS IN WONDERLAND, by Rosemary Frisino Toohey.
First produced by the Mavericks in 2002, GLADYS takes a look at aging in America --- but we promise you will find it funny, especially if you might be classified in the “mature” category!
Audience favorite MARY LOU CASSIDY is Gladys, an 81-year-old who might be “slipping a bit,” but she is quite content to live alone, eat donuts and read obituaries. But lots of other people have plans for her, not the least of whom is the Angel of Death (MICHAEL FIELDS), who rings her doorbell one morning. When Gladys declines his invitation to depart with him, the Angel gives her a peek at her immediate future --- a visit from a zealous Meals on Wheels volunteer (DICK PRENTICE), a preview of nursing home living from insiders (SUEBOB SMITH and SANDRA WEGNER), funeral planning instructions from her best friend (CHARLYNE DODGE), and lots and lots of unsolicited advice and interference from her relatives.
The family members will be played by GINA WYNNE, GENE HOUK, MARION KIMBERLY, DIANE BROWNE and BRAD CONNERY.
Gloria Stephenson is directing the production.
The playwright, Rosemary Frisino Toohey, will visit during the second weekend of the run. She wrote GLADYS as a tribute to her own mother.
Maverick Players have been especially blessed with underwriting grants on this production. We thank Arts Assembly of Midland, RSVP of Community and Senior Services, and Hospice of Midland for helping bring GLADYS back to our stage.*********************************
